Patrick Buckland
Chief Executive Officer
Buckland is what can be termed an industry veteran. He has been programming videogames for 25 years, and has been wholly or jointly responsible for a number of bestsellers including
Crystal Quest,
Carmageddon and
State of Emergency. He has also produced a varied range of non-game software over the years, including a security system used by the CIA and NASA.
Aside from his undoubted technical ability, Patrick’s skill set includes strong leadership, planning and design abilities. Patrick Buckland co-founded the original Stainless Software Ltd. along with Neil Barnden in 1994.
Matt Edmunds
Chief Operating Officer
Graduated in 1992 with a BSc Hons in Business Computing Systems. After freelance programming at BT’s research laboratories for two years, Matt became employee number one at the newly-formed Stainless Software Ltd. He progressed from programmer to project manager and producer, overseeing development of a variety of videogames.
After a short freelance break in 2001, Matt joined Stainless Games Ltd. as Production Manager in 2002. A company reorganisation in 2003 saw him take on his current role of Chief Operating Officer.
Shaun Smith
Creative Director
Design graduate Shaun Smith was one of Stainless’ first employees in 1996, and worked extensively under co-founder and former creative director Neil Barnden. Having risen through the ranks at Stainless, Smith left to take on a succession of senior contract positions at Portsmouth-based developer Climax, before returning to us as Creative Director in 2005.
Ben Gunstone
Production Director
Ben Gunstone has extensive Industry experience in a production and management with the beginnings of his career traceable back to time spent at Nintendo UK and SCI during the mid nineties. With his strong background in QA and customer support, Gunstone quickly moved into a producer role within the SCI infrastructure. Most recently Ben has spent a few years at Sega of Europe involved in the acquisition, and overseeing development of, a number of external projects.
Ben has been a producer on numerous licensed and IP titles including
The Italian Job (PSOne) and
The Great Escape as well as some massive SEGA IP products including
OutRun2,
Virtua Tennis and
SEGA Rally.
John Cook
Business Development
For more than 20 years, Cook has represented some of the world's top game companies, including Maxis, Bullfrog Productions, Sensible Software, The Bitmap Brothers, Geoff Crammond and – for the last 6 years – Stainless Games. Cook's involvement with the games industry dates back to the early eighties when he was a journalist on the cult magazine Popular Computing Weekly. In 1986 he joined the Mirror Group where he became Head of Development of Mirrorsoft, its computer game subsidiary. He was influential in the first release of Tetris, as well as the launch of the trailblazing Imageworks label.
He is now Senior Partner of Bad Management LLP, which acts for Stainless Games's commercial side.
